Team America
We watched Team America World Police last night. Steph didn't find it as hilarious as me. In fact she didn't find it hilarious at all.
Yes, the music is as brilliant as the movie, which was as devastating a political commentary as I can remember seeing. The music, like the movie, went beyond simply hilarious, it nailed so many nuggets of misperception on the global scene today.
Some of my favorites: "Would you think of all them war vets/and wouldja start ta feel bad?" captures the American tendency to charge in based on primitive emotional reactions, not bothering to stop and think about the ramifications of doing so.
And Kim's heartbreaking little tearjerker: i work reary hard and make up great prans but nobody ristens no one understands seems rike no one takes me [falsetto] ser-ree-rus-ree... How brilliant to put America's casual approach to the threat of nuclear proliferation in N. Korea on the level of a brutal dictator's feeling of loneliness! The fact that we've run around invading countries that can't touch us while Kim sits over there busting out nukes seems "kinda seery...but not reery".
And the anthem, "America--F**K YEAH!/So lick my *** and suck on my b***s!" Got that, France? Canada? Iraq, Iran....oh no, not you, Saudi Arabia, you're good...This anthem is so intense and catchy I can easily imagine rednecks singing it without a trace of irony.
This is unquestionably shoot-yourself-in-the-head funny stuff! It's so funny, it's like 9-11 times...I dunno, around 300 million?
